Revamping and revising

by midlifemaven on November 22, 2009

It has been a while since I last posted and feel you deserve an explanation for my absence. As with so many things, it was the result of a sense of uncertainty about the direction I was taking. I realized that although I had set up my midlife sites as ideas evolved, nearly a year later it was no longer clear to me what purpose each site was aiming to fulfill. Clearly the sites needed rationalizing, and the time had come to create order from the emerging chaos – and to clarify for myself what I was trying to accomplish.

At the end of that process, the good news is that this blog stays as it is. It began as my means of understanding and unraveling what was happening, and will continue to serve that function. I then looked at the information sites I’d created, and soon realized that there were too simply many of them. I have now closed down several, and separated out the information for the remaining sites – so far so good! My plan is now to arrange the information like this:

Midlife Living will have concrete information on health and psychological issues at midlife. It will also be the place to find information about life style issues.

Reclaiming Your Dreams at Midlife will be the place for philosophical ideas and theories about the potential and opportunities of midlife. It will be the place to read about issues you may be working on, suggestions for resources to help clarify your thoughts, and links to activities that can help.

Midlife Creativity is the place for ideas for arts-based projects to help you work through and visualize what it is you want to achieve. This will also be the place to find out about my classes, workshops and tours to participate in these offline activities.

In parallel with these sites is my online store, Busy Boomers Handmade Gifts, where handmade items such as journals, notebooks and holiday cards exist, along with knitted items for babies and toddlers, using older knitting patterns.

So now I’ve got my online real estate sorted out, my next task is to get the information researched, written and up onto the sites – and in a timely manner. I realize that this revamp and revising process parallels my life too. Every so often the mental static gets so loud it can no longer be ignored, and eventually I have to stop and pay attention. After coming to grips with what it is about, I have to decide whether in the light of it what I am doing makes sense, and if not, to work out what elements have passed their ‘best by’ date and need to be shed, and what else I might need to bring in to make sure I can go in the new direction.

Finally for accountability! Now I’ve mentioned this grand scheme of revising my sites to you, I have to see it through – both online and off.
